Ministry of Municipality Opens New Season of Agricultural Markets Across Qatar

08-11-2025

The Ministry of Municipality, through its Agricultural Affairs Department, announced the opening of the 2025/2026 season for local agricultural produce markets starting Thursday, November 6, 2025. The markets will operate in Al Khor, Al Thakhira, Al Wakrah, Al Shamal, and Al Shahaniya, while the Al Mazrouah market continues year-round. Open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7AM to 3PM, the markets feature over 100 Qatari farms offering high-quality fresh produce. This initiative aims to strengthen local agricultural production by creating direct sales channels between farmers and consumers, eliminating intermediaries, and ensuring fair returns for producers. The markets provide a wide range of fresh local products such as seasonal vegetables, natural honey, and dates, with facilities including shaded areas, organized parking, and quality inspection teams ensuring safety and standards. Since its launch in the 2012/2013 season, the local market initiative has seen remarkable growth—from one market in Al Mazrouah with 24 farms to over 160 farms by 2015, selling over 10,000 tons of produce. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Qatari farmers, enhancing food security, and achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 through sustainable agricultural practices and community participation.
