The Ministry of Public Health has announced a major price reduction on 1,019 pharmaceutical products in the local market, with discounts ranging from 15% to 75%. This initiative is aimed at making essential medicines more affordable and accessible for patients across the country. The ministry confirmed that the revised prices cover a wide range of therapeutic categories used by thousands of patients daily. This step reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare affordability and ensuring equal access to treatment. According to the ministry, the reduced prices apply to critical medications including heart and blood pressure drugs, diabetes treatments, antibiotics, painkillers, anti-inflammatory medicines, cancer therapies, and psychiatric drugs. Other categories include medications for the immune system, allergies, digestive disorders, and weight management. By including such a broad list, the initiative directly benefits patients suffering from both chronic and acute conditions. It also helps ease the financial burden on families and promotes better health outcomes. Dr. Aisha Ibrahim Al Ansari, Director of the Pharmacy and Drug Control Department, highlighted that the ministry regularly reviews and updates the prices of medicines registered in Qatar. She explained that pricing is based on international standards, manufacturing costs, and comparisons with reference prices in other countries. The department also considers the prices of available alternatives in the local market to ensure fairness and competitiveness. With this move, Qatar continues to strengthen its healthcare system by providing high-quality medicines at affordable prices for all residents.
