The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) is celebrating its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of sharing and preserving the country’s culture, history, and heritage. Since opening in 1975, the museum has been a key cultural landmark and a place where people can connect with Qatar’s past. The museum is built around the old palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, a former ruler of Qatar, making it a special historical site. Its new building, opened in 2019, was designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. He was inspired by the desert rose crystal, a natural formation found in Qatar, which gives the museum its unique and eye-catching shape. To celebrate this special milestone, Qatar Museums is taking part in Evolution Nation—a campaign that will run for 18 months. Led by Qatar Creates, this celebration highlights Qatar’s journey in art, culture, and creativity over the past 50 years and looks ahead to its future.
