Qatar and Bahrain have officially launched a new direct passenger ferry service connecting Al-Ruwais Port in northern Qatar with Sa’ada Marina in Bahrain, marking a historic step in Gulf regional connectivity. Covering a distance of approximately 35 nautical miles, the ferry completes the journey in about 70–80 minutes, offering GCC nationals a new travel option between the two countries. In its initial phase, the service will operate two to three round trips daily, with booking available through the MASAR mobile app. Fares start at around QAR 265 for a round trip, and vessels can carry up to 32 passengers per journey.
Launched jointly by Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al-Thani, and his Bahraini counterpart, the service symbolizes the strengthening of bilateral relations and the commitment to enhancing Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) integration. The ministers described the project as a “strategic step” that underscores the brotherly ties between Qatar and Bahrain while supporting both nations’ ambitions to boost tourism, logistics, and economic cooperation.
Currently, the service is limited to passenger travel, with no provision for vehicles. Authorities have confirmed that all operations will comply with the security and immigration regulations of both nations. Future expansion of the route and frequency is expected depending on demand, with potential extensions to other Gulf destinations under consideration. The new ferry service not only provides a faster and more scenic alternative to air travel but also promotes regional trade, tourism, and people-to-people connections between the two neighbouring Gulf states.
