Qatar Launches Global Alliance for AI Ethics at UN AI Governance Dialogue

Qatar has announced the launch of the Global Alliance for AI Ethics (GAAIE) during the inaugural United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, reinforcing its commitment to responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence governance. The announcement was made by Minister of Communications and Information Technology H.E. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai during the high-level government session on advancing the benefits of AI through collaborative global approaches. Developed by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation, the alliance aims to bring together governments, academic institutions, industry leaders, and international organisations to promote ethical AI development while ensuring that diverse cultural values and global perspectives contribute to future AI standards and policies.

During the dialogue, H.E. Al Mannai highlighted Qatar's vision for a trustworthy AI ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of expanding access to computing infrastructure, data, and skilled talent, while improving interoperability between international AI governance frameworks. He also stressed that protecting human rights and maintaining meaningful human oversight are essential for building public confidence in artificial intelligence. Guided by Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National AI Strategy, Qatar continues to invest in digital infrastructure, research, and innovation to support sustainable technological development. The launch of GAAIE reflects the country's growing role in shaping international AI governance and strengthening global cooperation for the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
