Qatar Museums revealed on Wednesday a thought-provoking exhibition on the art and legacy of Jean-Leon Gerome, celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth. The show, "Seeing Is Believing: the art and influence of Gerome," will open on November 2, 2024, and stay up until February 22, 2025, at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. This exhibition, organized by the future Lusail Museum, will feature nearly 400 works including European depictions of the MENASA region spanning the 16th to 19th centuries. Gerome one of Europe's most famous and successful artists in the 1900s, brought ancient Greece and Rome to life through his historical paintings. His many trips to Egypt and Turkey in the 19th century led him to create iconic images that came to define Orientalism.
