Qatar Replaces Health Card with QID for Public Healthcare Services

18-04-2026

In a major step toward simplifying healthcare access, Mansoor bin Ebrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud, Minister of Public Health in Qatar, has announced that residents can now use their valid national ID (QID) instead of a physical health card when visiting government healthcare facilities. This includes institutions under Hamad Medical Corporation and Primary Health Care Corporation. The move enables seamless verification of a patient’s health number through integrated digital systems, ensuring uninterrupted access to healthcare services without the need for a printed card. As per Circular No. (10) of 2026, the printing of health cards for residents will be discontinued, although existing fees for issuing and renewing health cards will remain in place. Authorities have advised both citizens and residents to carry their QID when visiting any public health facility. This initiative reflects the Ministry’s broader push to modernize administrative processes, standardize official documentation, and enhance the overall patient experience across Qatar’s healthcare system.
