Entry requirements
To enter Qatar, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned stay. 90+ nationalities are eligible for visa-on-arrival. All visitors must purchase health insurance for the duration of their stay in Qatar. You should purchase insurance from companies approved by the Qatari Ministry of Public Health at a standard cost of 50 Qatari Riyals per month, either prior to or on arrival in Qatar. The validity of Hayya Cards has now been extended till January 24, 2024. Fans and organisers outside Qatar who hold Hayya Card can enter the country providing proof of hotel reservation or accommodation with family or friends approved via the online Hayya Portal. They will also need to show a valid return ticket, and health insurance that is valid for the duration of the stay in the country.
Where tradition and modernity go hand in hand
Qatar is one of the most welcoming countries in the region, so entering Qatar is a little easier than accessing other much more conservative countries. This country is a sovereign Arab state in western Asia, located on a peninsula that extends into the Arabian Gulf, has a single land border, to the south with Saudi Arabia and the rest of the territory is bathed by the waters of the Persian Gulf. Qatar also offers Visa on arrival for the citizens of 95 countries.
In addition to its special location, Qatar is distinguished by its impressive culture that, although it remains conservative and very attached to tradition, has also been filled with impressive technological and architectural advances that position it as one of the countries with the highest per capita income worldwide.
Don't forget the currency exchange
To start, you need to have contemplated the currency exchange since in Qatar the only accepted currency is the national one: The Qatari Riyal. The Qatari Riyal is pegged to the US dollar at a rate of 1 US dollars to 3.64 Qatari Riyals. You can change before you travel. In Qatar money can be exchanged at banks, the airport and exchange dealers. You’ll be able to use your card in most places, but for taxis, local transport and more traditional areas it’s best to have a little cash on you.
Always respect the dress code
It is well known that the Middle East has a strict dress code and it must be respected by everyone during sightseeing. Hotels, bars, and beach clubs now have flexible dress codes, so tourists don't have to worry. But it is important to remember that when walking down the street, the tourist should respect the customs of the locals, which also includes not wearing bare clothing, especially when visiting places of worship.
Consider the weather
As in all destinations in the world, there is always a season of the year where the weather is ideal for tourists. In Qatar the best time to arrive is from November to early April. This is to take advantage of winter and avoid the extreme heat that complicates tours for everyone, including tourists.
Getting around Qatar - Public transport
Due to its small size getting around Qatar is relatively easy. Public transport in Qatar consists of Metro, Tram, Buses and taxis. Doha metro is quick and efficient for those travelling to Doha on a budget. Public Buses are also available around Doha and across Qatar. Taxi is the most popular and preferred mode of transport by tourists. Karwa Taxi, a state-owned Mowasalat transport, is widely available and reasonably priced. If you hold a valid international driving license, you can drive a rental car in Qatar for up to six months from the date you enter the country.
Organize a clear itinerary
You must bring the reservation printouts of the hotel where you will stay and the reason for your trip. It is also very important to carry the permit granted by the Qatari government to enter the country. It is also important that you do not miss any of the most important destinations. Many of Qatar's best-known attractions are concentrated in Doha, its capital, and some of the most popular places are the Corniche, Souq Waqif Traditional Market, the Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum of Qatar, Msheireb Downtown, Lusail City and The Pearl. So follow these tips and enjoy a special trip to Qatar.
