Qatar Launches Global Alliance for AI Ethics at UN AI Governance Dialogue

Qatar has announced the launch of the Global Alliance for AI Ethics (GAAIE) during the inaugural United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, reinforcing its commitment to responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence governance. The announcement was made by Minister of Communications and Information Technology H.E. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai during the high-level government session on advancing the benefits of AI through collaborative global approaches. Developed by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation, the alliance aims to bring together governments, academic institutions, industry leaders, and international organisations to promote ethical AI development while ensuring that diverse cultural values and global perspectives contribute to future AI standards and policies.

During the dialogue, H.E. Al Mannai highlighted Qatar's vision for a trustworthy AI ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of expanding access to computing infrastructure, data, and skilled talent, while improving interoperability between international AI governance frameworks. He also stressed that protecting human rights and maintaining meaningful human oversight are essential for building public confidence in artificial intelligence. Guided by Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National AI Strategy, Qatar continues to invest in digital infrastructure, research, and innovation to support sustainable technological development. The launch of GAAIE reflects the country's growing role in shaping international AI governance and strengthening global cooperation for the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Qatar Launches National Volunteer Platform ‘Tatawwa’

Qatar launched the National Volunteer Platform “Tatawwa” under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, marking a major step toward strengthening volunteerism and community participation in the country. The unified digital platform was inaugurated in Doha by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani in the presence of senior ministers and dignitaries. Launched under the slogan “An Impact That Extends,” the platform aims to organise volunteer work, improve transparency, and create a trusted digital environment connecting volunteers with organisations across Qatar. Registration for the National Volunteer Platform is now open through Volunteer Qatar. The “Tatawwa” platform will regulate and license volunteer opportunities, document volunteer hours, and provide a national database to support planning, governance, and impact measurement within Qatar’s volunteer sector. The initiative also offers volunteer registration, accredited certificates, training programmes, evaluation systems, and statistical reporting tools to enhance the efficiency of volunteer services nationwide. Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi described the platform as a transformative step that shifts volunteer work in Qatar from scattered initiatives to a comprehensive national framework focused on empowerment, digitalisation, and sustainability. The launch aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Ministry’s 2025–2030 strategy aimed at building a cohesive, responsible, and socially connected society.

Museum of Islamic Art Hosts “Empire of Light” Exhibition on Afghanistan’s Art and History

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), in collaboration with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), presents Empire of Light: Visions and Voices of Afghanistan, a landmark exhibition celebrating Afghanistan’s rich history, art, and architectural heritage. Running from 2 February to 30 May 2026 at MIA, the exhibition traces Afghanistan’s journey from pre-Islamic times to the present day, highlighting its historic role as a crossroads of cultures, religions, ideas, and peoples. Curated by Nicoletta Fazio and Thomas W. Lentz, the exhibition features nearly 150 rare objects and immersive displays, offering visitors a comprehensive cultural and artistic narrative of the region. Officially inaugurated by the Chairperson of Qatar Museums, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, in the presence of Prince Aly Muhammad Aga Khan and other distinguished guests, the exhibition also underscores the importance of heritage conservation. Large-scale wooden architectural models—crafted at the AKTC Jangalak Vocational Training Centre in Kabul—depict Afghanistan’s iconic monuments and reflect AKTC’s ongoing restoration efforts since 2002. Empire of Light forms part of Evolution Nation, a cultural initiative curated by Qatar Creates to mark 50 years since the founding of the National Museum of Qatar, reinforcing Qatar’s position as a global hub for art, culture, and creativity.
